Courses for 2022/23

BEng Biomedical Engineering

Practical experience is a significant element of this course. You'll gain hands-on experience of 3D printing and bioprinting equipment and will become adept at electronics, microprocessor programming, and sensor design and development.

MEng Biomedical Engineering

In this integrated master’s course, you will have the opportunity to undertake original research in the fields of neural engineering, rehabilitation and medical technology in your third and fourth year project.

Fees and funding

There is a variety of funding support available to our undergraduates. You may be eligible for government loans, grants or bursaries.

Students from the UK can receive government loans to help towards tuition fees and living costs. They may also be eligible for grants and bursaries depending on their circumstances.

Accreditation

We are in the process of applying for accreditation from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM).

Careers

Demand for biomedical engineers is steadily increasing. As new technologies emerge, you will find there are more and more career directions for you to choose.

Industrial careers

Industrial careers are varied and can include researching, developing medical products, managing the use of clinical equipment in hospitals or designing and modifying equipment for clients with special needs in a rehabilitation setting.

Major companies in the healthcare area include Philips, Toshiba, GE Healthcare and Siemens Healthcare. The skills our graduates will gain allow them to also follow a more traditional engineering role within companies such as Sony, Microchip and Thales.

Academic careers

The Biomedical Engineering degree will also provide the ideal academic grounding for graduates to undertake a PhD in the field.

Government agencies

Graduates of our degrees might prefer a career in policy proposal and implementation. Biomedical engineers can act as consultants for government agencies that rely heavily on expert advice to develop legislative and financial agendas.
